My name is Samantha, I’m very pleased to be serving my third year as President of the Parent Association at PS/IS 87. This year, I hope to have many exciting things go on like fundraisers, events, and much more!
This year I’m hoping to see more parents get involved. I’m very excited to see all the new families that have children who are new to the school.
I have 5 children who have been part of P.S./I.S. 87 Middle Village. My youngest child is currently in 4th grade, and my oldest child here at 87 is now in 6th grade.
Before being elected as the PA president I was very involved with volunteering and doing special things for different classes that brought smiles to the children’s faces. That’s something that I love to see along with parent engagement activities.
Outside of school, I’m a Registered Nurse serving as a coordinating manager for nursing at New York City Health + Hospital for over six years.
I’m truly looking forward to another great year and getting to hear any feedback or suggestions you have to offer for the PA. Our ears are open and we are always looking for many great ideas and suggestions.

Hi everyone! My name is Jaclyn, and I’m excited to be serving as the Vice President of the Parent Association here at PS/IS 87.
I have two children who have been part of the 87 family. My younger child is currently in seventh grade, and my older child graduated from 87 and is now in 10th grade. I’ve been volunteering at the school since my oldest started kindergarten, so I’ve been here for quite a few years.
Outside of school, I’m a Funeral Director, which is definitely a unique career, but one that I love. I’m a big believer in giving back and being involved in the community, and volunteering at 87 has always been something that’s really important to me.
I’m looking forward to working with all of you this year, getting to know some new families, and continuing to make PS/IS 87 a great place for our kids. I’m always happy to help, so please don’t hesitate to come say hi!

Hi I'm Minonska Castellano! I hold an Ed.D. in Education and have dedicated the past 14 years to working at CUNY, where I continuously support and promote the value of education. I strongly believe in the power of education and community involvement. I have a daughter in 7th grade and have volunteered at PS/IS 87 for the past four years.
I'm passionate about creating a supportive, inclusive, and welcoming school community where every child and family has the opportunity to thrive. I am proud to now serve as the Treasurer of the Parent Association and look forward to contributing my experience, dedication, and passion for education to support the school community.
I am fluent in both Spanish and English and am passionate about supporting families from diverse backgrounds.

Hello I’m Crystal-lee! I’m so excited to be part of this year’s PA board as the Corresponding Secretary for P.S./I.S. 87. This is my first year being on P.S./I.S. 87’s PA board, but in the past at other schools I have served as Middle School Engagement Committee Chair, Class Parent, Nominations Committee Chair, Corresponding Secretary, and helped with the fundraising. I love volunteering, helping people grow, supporting youth in our community, and leading initiatives that make positive impact.
I have a 5 year old son who just started 1st grade. This will be our third year at 87 and I know it’s going to be a great one. If you ever see me outside don’t be shy to say hi.
I can’t wait to see what we can all do together. Our parent association is only strong if we work together to support our kids and school community. I have many dreams and ambitions for what we can do for our school. My biggest dream is to have programs at our school that nurture our students interests and learning.

Executive Board Roles & Duties
Executive Board Roles & Duties
The descriptions below provide a general overview of each Executive Board Officer position. For the complete duties and responsibilities of each office, please refer to the P.S./I.S. 87 Parent Association Bylaws, which serve as the official governing document of the Parent Association.
President
President
The President serves as the chief volunteer leader of the Parent Association. They preside over meetings, work closely with the Executive Board and school administration, encourage family engagement, oversee committees, help set goals for the Association, and represent the Parent Association on the School Leadership Team (SLT), Presidents' Council, and other school and community meetings.

Vice President
The Vice President supports the President and assumes presidential duties when the President is unavailable. They assist with Parent Association meetings, events, committees, protocol responsibilities, community meetings, and other initiatives that support the school and its families.
Treasurer
Treasurer
The Treasurer is responsible for overseeing the financial affairs of the Parent Association. This includes maintaining financial records, tracking income and expenses, preparing financial reports, following established financial procedures, assisting with budgets, and helping ensure transparency and accountability for all Association funds.
Recording Secretary
Recording Secretary
The Recording Secretary is responsible for documenting the official business of the Parent Association. They prepare meeting agendas and sign-in sheets, record accurate meeting minutes, present minutes for approval, and help ensure members have access to the information discussed during Executive Board and General Membership meetings.
Corresponding Secretary
Corresponding Secretary
The Corresponding Secretary serves as the communications officer of the Parent Association. They are responsible for maintaining and responding to the Parent Association email account, managing the Association website, Facebook, Instagram, and other online platforms, and communicating important announcements, meeting notices, agendas, minutes, and upcoming events to families and the school community. The Corresponding Secretary also maintains membership records and helps ensure families remain informed and connected throughout the school year.

The P.S./I.S. 87 Parent Association Committees are made up of parent and guardian volunteers who work together to support students, strengthen our school community, and help make Parent Association programs and events successful.
Audit Committee
Audit Committee
The Audit Committee conducts an annual review of the Parent Association's financial records to help ensure funds are managed accurately, transparently, and in accordance with established financial procedures. This committee provides an independent review and reports its findings to the membership.

The Bylaws Committee reviews the Parent Association Bylaws and recommends updates when necessary to ensure they remain current, effective, and compliant with applicable regulations. The committee helps preserve the governing structure of the organization.

The Budget Committee works with the Treasurer and Executive Board to develop the Parent Association's annual budget, review financial priorities, and recommend how available funds can best support students, programs, and school initiatives.
Enrichment Committee
Enrichment Committee
The Enrichment Committee helps develop educational, cultural, and family engagement opportunities that enhance the student experience beyond the classroom. The committee collaborates with school staff and community partners to explore new programs and activities throughout the school year.

The Events Committee plans, organizes, and coordinates Parent Association events that bring families together while supporting student programs and school spirit. Volunteers help with planning, setup, decorations, logistics, fundraising, and event-day activities.

The Fundraising Committee plans and coordinates fundraising events and campaigns that help provide financial support for Parent Association programs, student activities, educational resources, and school events. Committee members work together to organize fundraisers, recruit volunteers, promote participation, and create enjoyable opportunities for families to support the school community.

Grants Committee
The Grants Committee researches grant opportunities and assists with preparing applications that help secure funding for educational programs, student enrichment initiatives, equipment, and school improvement projects. The committee works with the Executive Board and school administration to identify funding opportunities that benefit the school community.
Nominations Committee
Nominations Committee
The Nominating Committee helps identify and recruit qualified candidates for Parent Association Executive Board positions. The committee oversees the nomination process in accordance with the Parent Association Bylaws and helps encourage leadership development within the school community.
Sponsorship Committee
Sponsorship Committee
The Sponsorship Committee builds relationships with local businesses, nonprofit organizations, community leaders, and corporate sponsors to secure financial sponsorships, in-kind donations, volunteers, and collaborative opportunities that benefit P.S./I.S. 87. The committee also works to expand the Parent Association's network by developing long-term partnerships that strengthen programs and create additional resources for students and families.

The Volunteer Committee helps build and maintain a strong network of parent and guardian volunteers who support Parent Association events, fundraisers, committees, and school activities. The committee recruits, coordinates, schedules, and recognizes volunteers while helping ensure every event is well-supported and every volunteer has the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the P.S./I.S. 87 school community.
